Methods of Mathematics Madness

Hello, all readers of my wonderful new blog!

This blog is an attempt to chronicle my progress through the Master's of Science in Education/multiple-subject credential combined program at Cal State Fullerton.

That said, we're going to have fun. :)

Today in my mathematics methods course, we learned about math manipulatives--everything from math-related board games, dominoes, foam shapes, money and time playing cards, linking blocks...The manipulatives remind me of my short time visiting a Montessori classroom where they promote "touchable math".

We discussed, in pairs, tables, and as a class, various strategies in working with elementary learners with math.

Our professor says we needn't be anxious about teaching math--she will equip us and encourage us along the way. I am thankful for that, because math is definitely the subject I am most anxious about teaching.
